When do I get my child support after you’ve collected it?
QUESTION:
Hi Support Collectors,
I have a couple of questions. I was reading the contract and it said that you will send me payment with in 15 days of receiving money and then it says that you may hold payments to me depending on the size of the payments you receive and it could take years for me to receive a payment from you? That’s how it reads to me. Can you explain a little more to me about how payments are dispersed and what you consider to be a small sum?
I also have to gather my payment history. I’m not sure if my case worker is actually keeping track. I will get you whatever i have.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks!
Kirsten
ANSWER:
Hi Kirsten,
Thanks for the questions, I’m glad you asked!
We send payments out 2 times a month for clients on the 15th and the last day of each the month. Any payment that comes in between the 1-15th are send on the 15th and payment that come in between the 16th-end of the month are send on the last day of the month. The only time we may hold a payment is if it is a brand new non-custodial payer; this is done if a personal check is sent too close to the remit. We just want to make sure the payment clears so there is no issue with insufficient funds. In that situation, we hold the payment for a few more days and would send prior to the next official remit. Checks are never held for years; we adhere to a strict remit policy. There are no administrative fees that need to be collected so if we collect, you will see support within the specified time frame.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you got the info needed on our remit policy, if not I’m here to answer your concerns.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Julie
